This was the third painting in my Jazz Series and as well, it was my third finger-painting. Like "Purple Sax," it is 100% finger-painted without any uses of brushwork. The composition here, as in the others in this series, was inspired by my model’s form. The flowing colors, texture and movement that embody the background are my abstract interpretation of the music itself. I used the color red to represent the musician in order to create a feeling of passion and exertion and this was the very first time that I used the Fleur de Leis as my signature. The Fleur de Leis is the symbol for many French-inspired and influenced, places and things. I adopted it as my signature because of my love for New Orleans. New Orleans is also the ground on which I was born and nurtured and in turn, where this work was first inspired and created.
