"Sphinx"

I'm a lover of ancient Egyptian culture and this painting is a tribute to that passion. The pose came before the concept, or subject matter in this case, and after days of focusing on the pose, did I then have the inspiration for a pyramid. One pyramid led to three and then all else followed. I found the complications of the crisscrossed pose most challenging as I was dealing with multiple layers and levels, twists and turns, all needing to work together as one. I really enjoyed my models spirit and playful nature making the experience that much more of a pleasure. The sunrise was approaching as we finished the piece and exhaustion was shared between model, photographer and me.
