Painted Mardi Gras Night 2009, Maya Cross was created in the purest possible way. It was a spontaneous painting and I literally had no idea of what was going to happen until it happened. I vividly remember being in my studio, the model standing in front of me and I was without a clear vision of what I might do next. It happened moments later that I found the spark of inspiration that was needed to ignite this painting. The magic of Mardi Gras is apparent here in both the colors used and in the energy that radiates outward from within. This pose was presented to me by the model and I'm so glad she shared it with me.
